Sofia is a progressive, independent girl who dreads the word marriage. The only romances in her life are those of Jane Austen. That is until he is mysteriously transported to the 19th century. Film debut of Diego Montez. Starring Jules and Jim (1962). I was quite surprised by this one, and in a very good way, as most of what fantasy and ‘what if’; the genre has been said and it’s usually a well-worn kind of thing, except for the new audiences that come in, but "Perdida" ("Lost") actually had some nice points to share, a bit of a fresh take and a new presentation of certain things despite a lot of clichés that most of us know from romance novels and fantasy themes. It’s based on a best-selling novel (which I haven’t read), so what caught my eye were the fantastic themes and some of the actors’ names. Plot: it ends up being a pleasant, humorous film and one of those that you really have a good time watching. It follows Sofia (Giovanna Grigio), a modern independent woman, a huge fan of Jane Austen’s novels, who wishes her romantic life was just like that. how to swoon over a noble, gentle gentleman. Darcy type. But in an era of dating/hookup apps and romance that’s falling apart, the dream is only real in books, or so he thinks, until he’s transported to the 19th century in a place that feels like a cross between Brazil and England. , and somehow the racial diversity is fully embraced (I like this, but a lot of people will be confused by it) and there she happens to run into a young, handsome and respectable Ian Clarke (Bruno Montaleone). The rest is up to you to fill in the blanks as the confusion grows between beings from different eras, different behaviors and social costumes, and if there’s any love going on, from the costumes and art direction to the location (I’m not sure where it was filmed, those beautiful landscapes where Sofia and Ian ride horses), the package was well presented. And if one must say that there is some urgent question of "Perdida" or at least the audience for it is those who feel exactly like Sofia, living and facing an incredible technological era and the ability to believe in love and marriage beyond the social contract; but the age we have lacks human connection, real affection (as if Austen’s period was absolutely perfect). So the film makes for an interesting juxtaposition of the period, the romance of classic novels contrasted with modern times, and how the two can mesh…if at all. There is a lot of humor with those questions, the pair are very charming, as are the supporting characters – Ian’s sister (Nathália Falcão) was my favorite, she was charming with sunglasses and always helpful to Sofia clichés, be it fantasy, literature and real life clichés , "Perdida" is almost lost in them for a long time, but it’s one of those things that always attracts viewers who love these themes, but scares off those who feel tired of repetition. It didn’t bother me too much and I was able to be surprised by a few things and the ending felt pretty fair to everything that was presented. Fiction as fiction, but sometimes there are touches that go as far as reality. Live and learn. 7/10.
