With a budget of 42.9 million euros, “The Count of Monte Cristo” became the most expensive French film of 2024. I was never bored. I never found any inconsistencies. The scenery and decorations were top notch. The acting of the actors never pulled me out of the story, it keeps you in it from the beginning to the end. French cinema produces many forgettable films (in my opinion), many funny ones, some great ones, and every now and then a film that really makes me love cinema and theater. The Count of Monte Cristo belongs to the latter. Rarely do I find a film that portrays love, friendship, betrayal, courage, loneliness, caring, revenge and much more, at least in a decent manner. Nothing seemed rushed to me. Three hours were deserved, but it felt like less than two. I urge you to watch this film, it has many merits, and it will not be a waste of time. Now, if you are a fan of Dumas, your opinion will certainly differ.
